What Is a Faucet Adapter?

"Adapter" is a broad term and there are many different types of faucet adapters for many different installations. When people say “faucet adapter,” oftentimes they’ll be referring to an adapter that allows easy snap-on, snap-off connection to a standard faucet in order to join it to a new rigid surface, such as a hose.

Other uses for a faucet adapter include allowing it to connect otherwise non-compatible valves to the faucet handle. Once a faucet adapter is installed, it’s a simple procedure to connect or disconnect an inlet hose for use. You may see a kit be used for purposes such as the installation of shower faucet and bathroom sink faucet sets.

Here at PlumbersStock, we offer faucet adapter kits from some of the biggest names in faucets. You’re sure to find the best faucet adapter that works with your model faucet or spout at the lowest price.

Choosing the Right Faucet Aerator Adapter Kits

When choosing a faucet adapter for the purpose of connecting a hose to your kitchen sink, it can be difficult knowing which adapter to purchase. Faucet adapters come in many variable sizes because no two faucets are alike. To help you figure out which faucet adapter you need, here are some things to consider:

  1. Male aerators or female aerator adapters? Many plumbing parts are separated into what are known as male or female pieces. When it comes to a faucet adapter, female adapters are indented (concave) with a metal casing that wraps around the spout and a deep-set rubber ring. Male adapters are raised (convex) and have the rubber ring outside and atop the metal casing.
  2. Size – You’ll want to get an accurate reading of the size of your faucet’s diameter. This will narrow down the adapters you are looking for when it comes time to shop. There are a few different ways to go about doing this. The most accurate way is to take a tape measure and measure across the spout. However, if your tape measure is too large, you may get an inaccurate reading because you’ll be obstructing the view of the spout. If this is the case with your tape measure, use a piece of string to measure the diameter, then measure that piece of string to get your reading. If you don’t have a tape measure, try using coins instead. Measure the diameter by placing a penny, nickel, dime, or quarter and see which the best fit is.
