As the manufacturer describes it, This potable water expansion tank is used on gas, oil, or electric, direct-fired, residential water heater and hot water storage tank applications to absorb the increased volume of water created by thermal expansion. It also maintains balanced pressure throughout the water supply system by keeping system pressure below the T&P relief valve setting.

Expansion Tanks are generally installed for the specific purpose of accommodating natural expansion and air/volume disbursement in Water Heating Systems. Designed to eliminate "water logging" and to ensure consistent water pressure of a water supply system. This steel diaphragm tank is pre-pressurized and uses a heavy-duty rubber membrane to permanently separate the air and water within the tank to maintain consistent pressure without the loss of air to the water.
