AVK 3 Inch Mechanical Joint Gate Valve, Ductile Iron Construction. This particular product is a Ductile Iron Gate Valve manufactured by AVK and is for use with water distribution applications. The Gate Valve has a connection on either side, both measuring 3 inches nominal diameter size. Both of the connections are Mechanical Joint connections as well, which means that they have a fastening system with nuts and bolts for proper installation. A gate valve utilizes an open and close operation and like its name suggests does this via a gate. The gate opens as the wheel on top of the valve is activated, which moves the gate/wedge up or down. This valve has a Ductile Iron construction which gives it extreme durability for a long life. Gate valves should be installed in a section of piping that moves in a straight line or in areas where low restriction is desired. It will work best when its main function is to prevent or permit the flow of liquids, instead of regulating flow.
