4 Inch Mechanical Joint Tee Fitting, Ductile Iron Construction. This particular fitting is a Tee Fitting for Ductile Iron Pipe applications that features Mechanical Joint connections. A tee is an important fitting as it is used in order to connect three sections of iron pipes allowing you to connect two different pipes into one. The fitting gets its Tee name from its shape as it resembles the letter “T”. All three of the connections on the tee fitting measure 4 inches nominal size, making it for use with 10 inch Ductile Iron Pipe. Its connections on either end feature “mechanical joint” style connections which have machine drilled holes for proper installation. The mechanical joint utilizes a nut and bolt system, and depending on the size of the pipe, there will be more bolts required for a secure connection. Ductile Iron Pipe systems are most commonly used in the transportation of potable water.
