8 x 6 Inch MJ x MJ Reducer, Ductile Iron Construction. This particular fitting is a Reducer for Ductile Iron Pipe applications. A reducer is an important fitting as it is used in order to change the pipe size for a section of iron pipes. The flange has a 8 inch connection on one end which then reduces to a 6 inch connection on the other end. Its connections on either end are “mechanical joints” which have machine drilled holes for proper installation. The mechanical joint utilizes a nut and bolt system, and depending on the size of the pipe, there will be more bolts required for a secure connection. Ductile Iron Pipe systems are most commonly used in the transportation of potable water.
