Since you're in a salon, some chemicals or dry cleaners that are used there may affect the flame sensor and may cause the water heater to not work properly. Here are the general rules for venting water heaters: (1) Place the water heater close to the vent termination, securely fasten the vent collar to an unobstructed vent pipe, and avoid welding or altering the vent collar. (2) The vent should be easily removable for maintenance. (3) Only connect the water heater vent to an approved common-venting system, avoiding connections to other gas appliances. (4) Use appropriate materials for air supply pipes and avoid prohibited materials for non-metallic venting. (5) Sidewall or vertical venting is recommended, and slope horizontal venting sections appropriately. (6) Run the exhaust vent and intake pipe parallel when possible. (7) Install a rain cap for rooftop venting and avoid venting into a chimney. (8) Do not connect the water heater to a chimney flue serving a solid fuel-burning appliance.
