Wall Mount Bathroom Sinks

About Wall Hung Bathroom Sinks

Also referred to as wall-hung and floating sinks, wall mount bathroom sinks are attached and mounted directly on the wall without supporting a pedestal or a vanity. They are open underneath, giving your bathroom a streamlined look and a minimalist feeling. However, maybe not be the most exciting choice for residential applications; wall-mounted lavatories are often the best solution for a smaller bathroom with limited space. Typically, they are also affordable. It doesn't take an expert to install one, but they can be a little tricky. If this sounds like the bathroom sink for you, then you are in the right place.

Before we understand why you should go with a wall mount option, there is one significant disadvantage to consider. The setup doesn't allow you to store and obscure toiletries and cleaning supplies underneath.

Why Buy Wall-Mounted Bathroom Sinks?

There are many reasons to consider a wall mount configuration, but the most common is space. It is perfect for smaller bathrooms. With the extra visible floor space, your restroom will appear larger. Another consideration is that the open space underneath accommodates people in wheelchairs. Here are some other advantages and benefits:

  • Greater Flexibility - You can conveniently adjust how high or low the sink sits during installation. Make it low enough for young children struggling to reach the tap. Or, if you have abnormally tall users, install it high up on the wall, taller than the average vanity or pedestal.
  • Easy To Clean - There is no pedestal or vanity to wipe down. Cleaning time will be short-lived.

Buyer's Guide

When you shop for your new wall-mount lavatory sink, you will want to weigh all the different options:

Materials

  • Vitreous china/Porcelain – is a commonly used material for bathroom sinks. Vitreous sinks have a smooth, solid surface that resists rust and discoloration. They are also hard to chip and crack. It is known for preventing leaks because of its very low moisture absorbency.
  • Acrylic - newer sinks are often made of this material and are getting increasingly popular. Acrylic sinks are lightweight and scratch resistant. They have a non-porous surface that is easy to clean using non-abrasives.

Colors

Most of the wall-mount bathroom sinks that we offer in shades of white. You will want to match the white of your sink to the white shade of your toilet. If you accidentally mismatch them, the darker of the two whites will appear dirty.

  • White - is the most popular color choice. It matches just about any faucet and bathroom decor. Choose from:
    • Cotton White - think of clean white sheets placed on a clothesline to dry in the sun's warmth. That's a good description of cotton white. This color gives a glossy, pure white look.
    • Sedona Beige - an off-white, should be matched with a beige toilet.
    • Bone - is another off-white shade for the bathroom. It goes great with light and dark color arrangements, but it may look dingy in bright white bathrooms.
    • And more!

Shapes and Sizes

Choosing the right size and shape wall mount lavatory is easy. There is no hole to cut in your countertop. It doesn't have to fit nicely on a pedestal. You measure to ensure your space is large enough for the wall-mount installation, and that's it. The two most common shapes are:

  • Rectangular - holds more volume than oval sinks, and they tend to offer a more flat surface area (for placement of your soap, toothbrush, razor, etc.).
  • Oval - homeowners like the personality that an oval wall-hung sink offers.

Tips for Wall Mount Sink Installs

The right installation will make all the difference. Be aware that wall mount installs present unique problems. For example, you need a secure way to mount the sink. Take the time to plan your project so it goes off without a hitch. Here is an overview of the installation process:

  1. Measure the size of your sink and determine the ideal mounting height (usually about 30 inches from the floor).
  2. Position the mounting plate as a template to drill your pilot holes. If your sink does not include a mounting plate, you'll have to use the sink to mark and identify where to drill.
  3. Drill your pilot holes for the lag screws and other fasteners included with your sink. For a tile wall, use a masonry bit.
  4. Use lag screws or other fasteners to secure your sink, attaching the mounting plate to your blocking. After screwing in the first fastener, ensure the mounting plate or the sink is level before putting in the other screws.
  5. Install the P-trap and drain arm to the drain stub-out. Connect your flexible hot and cold water supply tubes to the shut-off valves.
  6. Prepare and install the faucet, drain, and pop-up assemblies and check for leaks.
