The Installation location depends on what you are trying to monitor. If you are just looking at overall flow rate of the system it would need to be installed before any of the watering valves in the system. If you are looking to monitor just a zone it can be installed after the valve on that line. This needs to be installed on a controller capable of frequency output flow sensors, If your control has the available connection for this system you can use both. If it doesn't you will only be able to use the Rain Sensor. They Function in more of an on/ off configuration, Where the flow sensor sends signal pulses to indicate flow rates. The Installation Instructions can be found at the link below:https://www.toro.com/~/media/Files/Toro/Professional%20Contractor/Sensors-and-Sensors/TFS-Flow-Sensors/TFS-Flow-Sensors-Install-Guide.ashx
