To attach the pipe and fittings, a process called solvent welding is required. This process involves the use of both CPVC glue and primer. CPVC pipe has a smooth, glaze-like finish; the primer removes this glaze, enabling a proper bond between the pipe and fittings. Failing to use primer may result in cracked or broken CPVC connections.
CPVC pipe is commonly used in applications such as corrosive fluid handling, fire suppression systems (sprinklers), and potable water distribution. It differs from regular PVC in that it can withstand higher water temperatures, ranging from 104°F to 122°F.
