4 Inch Blind Flange with 2 Inch Tap, Ductile Iron Construction. This particular fitting is a Blind Flange with a 2 Inch Tap for Ductile Iron Pipe applications. A blind flange is an important fitting as it is used in order to cap off or end a section of iron pipes. The flange has a 4 inch diameter for use with 4 inch iron pipe. It is very similar to a regular flange in that it has the mounting holes for a secure and strong connection. It is important to remember that this is a blind flange, meaning that it does not have the center hole which allows liquid/water to flow through the pipeline, however the two inch tap allows for a hole to be "tapped out" . These flanges can also be a good fitting for repairs as you can cap off a section of line while repairing another. A blind flange is commonly mounted at the end of a pipe system for later expansion if necessary. Ductile Iron Pipe systems are most commonly used in the transportation of potable water.
