What is the little hole in the side of the outlet side for and why does it leak after the second or third year?

Hi! We value your inquiry about our Hydro-Rain HRZ-100-MM-30 drip control zone 30 PSI regulator. According to Hydro-Rain, the little hole on the side is for pressure release. It should leak out of there every once in a while. If it's constantly leaking, then it will likely need to be replaced. Hydro-Rain wants to ask you some information because they might be able to get you a replacement sent out if your item is still under the warranty.
