Questions & Answers

Hi, Thanks for visiting! No. This PVC cement cannot be used to fix leaks AROUND the coupling. It can however be used to create a secure seal on a new coupling if so desired. You will need to remove the old leaking coupling from the pipe with a pair of Ratchet Sheers or a saw of some kind. Turn off the water before removing the old coupling. If you are working above ground we recommend a Kwik repair coupling of some kindto replace the leaking coupler. A repair coupling like this has a telescoping feature that allows for quick and easy replacement.

If however you are going to be working under ground you would be better off to buy a repair coupling like this one that can be slid over the pipe far enough to allow the other end in and then slid back onto that. Either way you will want to make sure that both the coupling and pipe is dry and free of any foreign contaminants that may hinder the optimal effectiveness of the PVC cement before attaching your pieces together. Apply PVC primerto insure the best seal possible followed by a liberal amount of glue. Each time you glue fittings together remember to firmly hold the pieces together for 30 seconds to minimize the potential for leaks.
