According to the manufacturer, the residential descaler should be installed after any household filtration or water purification equipment - including water softeners - that treats the entire house. Any PVC, CPVC, PEX, Copper or non-ferrous based pipe will work. You can keep the water softener on and have the residential descaler work in conjunction with it. Or just turn the water softener off and put it into bypass mode. Please refer to the installation manual and the specification sheet if you have more questions. Hi, there! According to the manufacturer, this Scaleblaster SB-75 Residential Descaler unit will not help with high iron content because it only deals with calcium in the water. However, you can combine this SB-75 with your water softener by installing it afterwards. Your other option is to use this SB-75 and combine it with a filter to handle the iron issues. Hello! Thank you for your question about the ScaleBlaster SB-75 residential descaler. Yes, you can use it on copper pipes. To wrap your copper pipe, begin by inserting the pre-stripped end of the signal cable into one of the terminal block holes, ensuring a secure fit by gently tugging on the wire. Then, route the cable towards the inlet pipe, keeping it parallel to the pipe. Use a cable tie to fasten the signal cable firmly to the pipe. For the initial layer, wrap the loose end of the cable around the pipe in a consistent direction, making sure the wraps are snug and closely aligned without any gaps. Since you’re working with copper, it’s important to add a second layer of wrapping. This layer should be wrapped directly over the first, maintaining the same direction as the first layer, and it must be tight against the prior wrap. After securing both layers, use a third cable tie to fasten around the pipe and both cable layers, pulling it tight to keep everything secure. Finally, route the loose end of the signal cable back to the power box, trimming any extra length as necessary. Strip off the outer plastic shield from the end of the cable, leaving about 1/4” to 3/8” of bare wire exposed. Twist this bare end and insert it into the other terminal block hole on the power box, gently tugging to ensure it’s secure.
