Pipe dopes are cheap, relatively easy to apply and are compatible with almost any material, but solvent-based pipe dopes lose effectiveness over time from heat aging Anaerobic resin compounds can fill the spaces between pipe threads, but due to its specialized formula, may not be compatible with certain materials. These particular couplers are for High Density polyurethane pipe. There are a couple of different types of pipe that are black. Some that take inserts to connect them, and others that take this kind of fitting.
